UKEMI

UKEMI is an annual publication on image, art, and creation. We wanted to create a notebook that would gather voices, characters, fables, and songs that we come across along the way — in our readings, in films, in the memory of a text that fell into our hands some time ago and never left us; in notes scattered across old planners that reappear before our eyes, in playlists that are far from recent, yet resurface as if freshly released.

UKEMI IS THE ART OF FALLING SAFELY” Ukemi is made up of two words: Uke (from the verb ukeru, “to receive” or “to obtain”) ‖ and Mi (“body,” “oneself”). ⅏ ⁐ So, beyond “fall,” Ukemi could also be translated as “receiving with the body the technique that corresponds.” ⁕ It is a form of defense that not only protects our body from the harm caused by an eventual impact with the ground, but that, after that impact, must also prepare us to keep fighting. ⟵

This is issue ➀, and it is about Memory.
